Welcome Center Representative

SCHEDULE:Shifts Vary
STARTING SALARY:$10.10 to $12.00/hour (base on experience)
STATUS:Part Time/Non-Exempt


Position is responsible for superior member service. Assists with the daily operations of the Welcome Center.

Responsible for planning, developing, organizing and evaluating all aspects of member and program participant development, in accordance with purposes and policies of the branch and association. Ensures the needs of the YMCA and its members and program participants are met. This position is responsible for the growth, expansion, and retention of the membership and program participation. Works under the supervision and guidance of the Membership Coordinator.

Essential Duties/Functions

  • Answers incoming calls / in-person inquiries and refers callers to appropriate Y staff members
  • Responsible for the intake of payments and essential paper work for membership and/or program participation
  • Monitors YMCA email, responds appropriately, and/or forwards emails to appropriate Y staff
  • Maintains supply of program information for members, mailings and marketing distributions
  • Provides prompt quality member service in a friendly, timely and professional manner
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with members, staff, volunteers, and the community
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and behavior consistent with the philosophy, values, and mission of the YMCA
  • Wear required name tag, is neat, clean and professional in appearance in accordance with required dress code
  • Exemplifies the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
  • Supports the mission of the Association
  • Acts as a team player communicating with all departments



  • People and member service oriented and well organized
  • Ability to learn & be proficient in Word, Excel, and online operating programs
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Have a team-oriented attitude and is patient in dealing with others – Speak and deal effectively with people
  • Ability to multi-task under pressure
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment


  • High School Diploma / GED Equivalent
  • Able to be CPR/AED, First Aid trained (Free training provided by YMCA)
  • TB clearance required
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19


  • Experience in customer/member service preferred
  • Must be computer literate, accustomed with general office procedures, filing, answering phones, photocopying and cash handling.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with in a diverse cultural environment
  • 2 years’ experience in customer/member service preferred
  • 2 years’ experience in cash handling position preferred
