COVID-19 Updates and Closure Information

Dear Valued Members & Guests,

Like our entire nation, our YMCA continues to monitor the ongoing developments associated with the community spread of COVID-19, which is prompting us to make some unprecedented decisions.

Due to the ongoing public health emergency presented by the COVID-19 virus outbreak, we will be limiting usage of the Y and temporarily closing the Maui Family YMCA for everyone beginning Friday, March 20 at 7:45 AM. We will stay closed until we get the all clear based on the best and latest guidance from the CDC, the Governor’s office and local public health officials.

We arrived at this difficult decision based on the latest CDC guidance, the Governors recommendations and in consultation with local Maui public health officials. As a nonprofit community service organization, the Y’s top priority will always be your health and the health of our community. Our goal with this temporary closure is to do our part in trying to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community before it threatens to overwhelm our public health system.

Even individuals who experience no or mild symptoms after contracting COVID-19 can act as carriers to exponentially spread the virus throughout our community, including to the elderly and others most vulnerable to the disease. Every small step we take now to reduce spread can have a dramatic positive impact on our community’s health in the days and weeks to come.

Digital wellness options available

I want you to know how much we at the Y regret the inconvenience this temporary closure may cause you. Even while our doors are closed, please know the Y wants to continue to be a resource for you as you seek to maintain your health and well-being during this challenging time. Toward that end, I would encourage you to visit My Virtual YMCA and YMCA360 to find workout videos to keep up your workout routines.

Emergency Grab&Go Food Program

The Maui Family YMCA is proud to announce that we will continue to be an official SFSP site, allowing us to provide free Snacks and Supper to our community.  During the closures of multiple businesses, including the Department of Education, we will be given the opportunity to impact approximately 100 families.

The Maui Family YMCA Grab&Go Meal Program will be available Monday through Friday from April 13, 2020 through May 29, 2020.  Snack and Supper will be available for pick-up in the YMCA parking lot between 5:00PM and 6:00PM.

This program is available to all children in our community ages 18 and under, while supplies last.  If children are not present during pickup, an official document that contains child’s name must be presented – school letter, individual student report card, birth certificate, student ID cards, etc.

Emergency Childcare Program

A health crisis puts incredible strain on our health care and infrastructure systems. With all Hawaii public schools closed state-wide, parents are often forced to choose between work and providing necessary child care.

This is hard for any parent, especially parents in health care and essential services – as missing a day of work may mean less hands providing life-saving care and essential services to members of our community who need it most.

That’s why we are proud to offer the Maui Family YMCA’s Emergency Childcare Program for hospital personnel and other essential workers who must continue to work during this COVID-19 pandemic.

March 2020 A+ Prorated Refund Request

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the State of Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE) is offering to prorate charges for the month of March 2020 to assist families facing economic hardship. Click on the button below to submit a request.

More than ever, your membership means more

As we work to continue to serve you, I have an urgent request of you: Please stay with us during this difficult time and keep your membership active.

By continuing your membership, you will allow us to maintain the financial resources needed to focus our time, people and energies to where our community needs it most. In particular, our Y is focused on the following key initiatives and issues:

  • Aligning with community partners regarding child care needs for healthcare workers, first responders and “essential” employees protecting our community through our Emergency Childcare Program
  • Become a resource center for the community offering drop off and pickup for essential community needs
  • Working with Maui Health Department to targeted high-need populations
  • Meal distribution site for low income families through our Emergency Grab&Go Meal Program
  • Continuing to provide pay for 130 Y employees out of work now, the majority who served in our after school care. In addition, our fitness instructors, lifeguards and front desk staff are without a job until the Y reopens.
  • Maintaining the facility to be ready for reopening

Membership Options During Closure

Thank you for all that you do as a member of the Y. If you need to change your membership while we are temporarily closed, we understand. Find resources below to get started.
